The fifth book in the series follows the Mangrove People as they search for a new home after humans destroy their mangrove forest. It is an adventure, but also a dangerous journey for these little mangrove dwellers.
Many people think of the mangrove as a swampy, smelly place, but it is hugely important and home to so much life. Crabs, fish, prawns and shellfish shelter in the roots while birds, insects and orchids live in the branches, and baby fish grow there safely until they are ready for the open sea.
Each book is written and illustrated by renowned Fiji artist Sharon Light. After more than fifteen years painting apparel she turned to fine art in 2003. A passionate fisher and diver who holds the women’s world record for great barracuda, Sharon is a descendant of a settler family that came to Fiji in 1869 to grow cotton in Ra, and that deep island connection runs through all her stories.
