‘O Tomu Kei Popi’ is a Fijian-language children’s book for children aged 7 to 8, with 17 pages. Each morning Tomu feeds the pigs, but today his dog Popi follows along and sets the startled piglets running. Tomu loses his temper before peace is restored, and the story opens up a gentle conversation about kindness to animals.
Part of a series of ten Fijian big-books created by the Institute of Indigenous Studies (IIS) Fiji Ltd together with the Retired Fijian Teachers Association, and published by the iTaukei Trust Fund Board. Written by Mrs Alitia Sila Temo with illustrations by Anare Somumu, the A3 format, large type and bright pictures are designed to be read aloud to a class from an easel, and enjoyed just as easily at home.
