Na Sisi Ni Qele – Landslide

‘Na Sisi Ni Qele’ is a Fijian-language children’s book for children aged 6 to 8, with 21 pages. After almost two months of rain, a landslide blocks the main road beside Dilkusha Girls School near Nausori. As the students take shelter, the Head Teacher asks what causes landslides, and Temalesi explains how clearing trees from slopes leaves nothing to hold the soil together, a timely lesson in caring for the land.

Part of a series of ten Fijian big-books created by the Institute of Indigenous Studies (IIS) Fiji Ltd together with the Retired Fijian Teachers Association, and published by the iTaukei Trust Fund Board. Written by Mrs Vika Nasome with illustrations by Anare Somumu, the A3 format, large type and bright pictures are designed to be read aloud to a class from an easel, and enjoyed just as easily at home.
