‘Na Qoli Vonu’ is a Fijian-language children’s book for children aged 6 to 8, with 9 pages. Young boys paddle out in their canoes to catch turtles, learning to turn a turtle in the water before the group lifts it aboard. Along the way the story teaches working together, reading the currents and weather, and understanding the behaviour of sea creatures.
Part of a series of ten Fijian big-books created by the Institute of Indigenous Studies (IIS) Fiji Ltd together with the Retired Fijian Teachers Association, and published by the iTaukei Trust Fund Board. Written by Mr Mosese Uluicicia with illustrations by Anare Somumu, the A3 format, large type and bright pictures are designed to be read aloud to a class from an easel, and enjoyed just as easily at home.
