The Mother of Pearl and Vau necklace brings together mother of pearl, vau and cotton cord in a piece inspired by the Armea bird, found only on the island of Rotuma. It is handcrafted by Rako Pasefika, who work with traditional Pacific materials.
The vau is made the old way, from tree bark that is shredded, soaked in sea water for two to three weeks, dried in the sun, then soaked in red dye for its colour. Slow, skilled work that gives the piece its natural character.
