Jone Na Dautataro – Jone The Kind Considerate Boy

‘Jone Na Dautataro’ is a Fijian-language children’s book for children aged 6 to 8, with 9 pages. While gathering breadfruit leaves near his home, Jone invites Taito, an elder of the village, to come and rest. Taito must hurry to a village meeting, but Jone’s warm welcome reflects an age-old Fijian tradition of being considerate and showing respect for elders.

Part of a series of ten Fijian big-books created by the Institute of Indigenous Studies (IIS) Fiji Ltd together with the Retired Fijian Teachers Association, and published by the iTaukei Trust Fund Board. Written by the late Ratu Semi Seruvakula with illustrations by Anare Somumu, the A3 format, large type and bright pictures are designed to be read aloud to a class from an easel, and enjoyed just as easily at home.
