The Basslets Dancing Masi Painting was inspired by the eye-catching fairy basslets that live in loose schools along Fiji’s coral drop-offs. Sigavou Studios paints them in water-based paint using a sponging technique like that of traditional masi kesa artists, with details in pigment pen.
Fijian masi, or barkcloth, is made by village women on islands such as Vatulele. It is a renewable material, harvested in strips from paper-mulberry trees, then pounded, soaked and stretched over several days. Each piece carries skills passed down through generations.
Handmade in Fiji and shipped worldwide from our Nadi store. Please allow 2 working days’ notice for Nadi and Denarau, and 3 working days for Suva, Lautoka, Coral Coast, Ba, Pacific Harbour and the rest of our courier zones.
