Hand-Painted Fijian Masi Art for Sale
Masi is Fiji’s traditional barkcloth, beaten from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree and still presented at Fijian weddings, births and ceremonies today. Our collection is hand-painted in Nadi by award-winning artist Maria Rova of Sigavou Studios: reef fish, turtles, starfish and frangipani painted directly onto masi, and silk paintings framed in masi made by village women on Vatulele. No two pieces are alike.

Meet the artists
Maria Rova of Sigavou Studios paints Fiji’s reefs, flowers and wildlife onto masi barkcloth and pure white silk. Her silk pieces are framed in traditional masi, so every artwork carries a piece of Fijian barkcloth. You’ll also find a painting on canvas by Epi Dakua.
Is masi the same as tapa?
Yes. Masi is the Fijian name for the barkcloth known as tapa elsewhere in the Pacific. Fijian masi is known for its stencilled and freehand designs, which vary from island to island.
Sending masi art overseas
Our masi art is shipped from Fiji and makes a meaningful gift for Fijians living abroad, for anyone who has visited the islands, and for collectors of Pacific art. See our shipping and delivery policy for current destinations.
