The Fijiana Cacao Story

In 1883, the Royal Botanical Garden of England shipped its very first consignment of Trinidad cacao seeds to the South Seas. Since then, cacao has grown wild in Fiji's remote rainforests. Today, our local farmers are organically growing premium cacao, which we turn into pure, single origin dark chocolate at our island factory. Dedicated to Farmers and eco-friendly practices.

Each bar is lovingly handcrafted before it takes its final journey to you. 

Fiji’s national flower, the legendary Tagimoucia, is said to have sprouted from the tears of a tribal princess who had fled her island village rather than be forced to marry a chief she did not love. This beautiful creeper, with its festoons of bright red and white flowers, grows only on the isolated slopes of extinct volcanoes in northern Fiji. The spiral wave motifs have been drawn with coral sand brought home from one of Fiji’s palm-fringed beaches.

Fijian ‘masi’, also called barkcloth, is produced by village women on islands such as Vatulele. A renewable resource, masi is made by harvesting strips of bark from specially grown paper-mulberry trees. Each piece takes days to process, involving repeated pounding, soaking and stretching. These traditional skills are passed on from generation to generation, with certain clans being considered the experts in masi-making. The uneven quality of the masi reflects its handmade origin.

Maria Rova lives in Nadi, Fiji. Her artwork is inspired by the wildlife, culture, and scenery of the Pacific, especially that of the remote island of Taveuni to the north of the Fiji group, which is home to her husband’s traditional clan. Sustained by forest and reef, Taveuni villagers still follow many of the ancient cultural practices that give Fijian people their unique identity. The artist wishes to acknowledge gratefully the impact that her Fijian family has had on her work.

Directions:

Initial Rhinestone Champagne flute

With approximately 100 rhinestones in the initial of your choice, this Champagne flute is elegant and beautiful. The rhinestones catch the light perfectly, making the initial shine and sparkle. A lovely personalised Champagne flute.

Select which initial you'd like, each glass is made to order and takes 3-4 days to customise. See the attached image for font style.

Each of the rhinestones are applied by hand, a process which takes several hours and requires professional training. Beautifully designed and crafted by Mika. Perfect for Birthdays, Weddings and as special gifts.

In the same range we have the 'Princess' Champagne flute which has approximately 144 rhinestones and the 'Queen's' Champagne flute which has approx. 830 rhinestones.

Each piece of this bracelet is individually created, rolled or flattened, one at a time. The pieces are baked in the kiln at over 1000 degrees Celsius for 8-10 hours, then left to cool for a day or two. Once cooled, the clay pieces are varnished and assembled using an elastic string, which means that one size will fit everyone.

There are no chemicals used in the clay, just water mixed in with the clay which is sourced from thre places in Fiji. Black clay from Wailoku in Suva, red clay from Momi in Sigatoka and white clay from Nabou Pine Forest just past Nadi.

The three types of clay are used to create a superior clay which is hard and resistant to wear and tear. You can be sure that your clay charm bracelet, made out of 3 kinds of clay from Fiji, will last and look beautiful.

Water-based paint on natural masi, using sponging and drawing techniques. The inspiration for the design came from a snorkelling trip off the island of Waya in the Yasawa Group. As a novice snorkeler, I was astounded by the amazing variety of colourful fish in all shapes and sizes I kept meeting, giving me the feeling that the imagination is the limit when it comes to designing reef fish!

The Fiji Pacific Iguana is one of our favourite Sigavou Studios pieces because of the stunning colours hand-painted onto Silk with a Fijian Masi background.

This artwork is part of a series of Limited Edition Originals, each painted by hand. Artist M. W. Rova uses pure, white silk and dyes to create the vivid compositions for which she is known. Rova’s art is inspired by the wildlife, culture, and scenery of tropical Fiji, where she lives with her young family.

The frame surrounding the silk painting is made from traditional Fijian ‘masi’, also called barkcloth. This is produced by village women on the island of Vatulele. A renewable resource, ‘masi’ is made by harvesting strips of bark from specially grown paper-mulberry trees. Each piece takes day to process, involving repeated pounding, soaking, and stretching. These traditional skills are passed on from generation to generation, with certain clans being considered the experts in masi-making. The uneven quality of the masi reflects its handmade origin.

This piece is made out of Mother of Pearl shell from Rotuma, 400km north of the main island of Viti Levu. 

The black chord is made from cotton fibers woven together, with the half-moon section featuring two Mother of Pearl discs woven on to the half-moon. The piece is finished with a Mother of Pearl button to fasten. Each detail has been designed and crafted to create a beautiful Mother of Pearl necklace which is unique to Rako Designs.

Her artwork is inspired by the wildlife, culture, and scenery of the Pacific, especially that of the remote island of Taveuni to the north of the Fiji group, which is home to her husband’s traditional clan. Sustained by forest and reef, Taveuni villagers still follow many of the ancient cultural practices that give Fijian people their unique identity. The artist wishes to acknowledge gratefully the impact that her Fijian family has had on her work.

This tea-light candle holder was inspired by Tai of Vanua Clay’s many freediving trips in Lau, Fiji.

This fish is called the Cumu, found close to the coral reef. The Cumu has a very strong head; when its mouth opens the whole body swells.

The Cumu was chosen for the tea-light holder because of it’s shape, which allows a tea-light candle to be placed inside its mouth.

The pendant is made from recycled glass which is broken up and fused together in a top-loading kiln. The pendant is then smoothed and the adjustable cord attached.
